Tonight I was reading an e-mail from a dear old friend ... let's call her "Hel" ...because, well, that is what I call her. Anyway, her note to me was in response to me keeping this blog and read, "oh, you are too cool ;-)". I guess this was her big sisterly way of conveying her message of, "Keep it real, dork. Because I knew you when you wore Birkenstocks to a corporate interview and don't think for a sec that I don't know that that girl is still there buried under the facade of Banana Republic somewhere. I knew you when you had a Dead sticker on your car for godsake. 'kay??"
I know, she says a lot with, "Oh, you are too cool ;-)". She was an English major, ...I dunno.
So, I let the fact that I am trying to be humbled by a woman who still writes with " ;-)" slide because well, whatever...but I felt compelled to at least respond because my charm rests on the mantra, "must. have. last. word.".
So I replied, "Say it to my face, butch". What I had actually MEANT to write was, "say it to my face, bitch". But I thought the typo was funnier than the original thought and decided that from now on that is what I will say to people. However, it didn't occur to me until a minute later how much funnier it was.
During the summer of 1997, H. & I went to the Lilith Fair concert in Hartford, CT. To describe the concert, Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair was the chicks' answer to Ozz Fest. It goes without saying that there was LOTS of estrogen and, well, lots of Ellen/Portia De Rossi relationships before that type of relationship became hip.
It's also a worthy footnote that at this concert H. was about 5 months pregnant with her first child.
So there H. and I were making are way through the crowd and I turned to her and said, "so you're the one with the bun in the oven...does this make me the guy? I bet that's what people are thinking."
I haven't left the house without lip gloss since.
Love this! I would use this "Say it to my face Butch" but since my husbands name is Butch I might not go there. :) This is great!
